Everyone seems to be intrigued by Shannon's latrine, so
here it is! It is the small (6" diameter) hole in the bottom
of the picture. The hole leads down to a large tank in the ground
via a curved pipe. Shannon is holding the plastic liter cup
used to "flush" by pouring water down the hole.
The latrine area is attached to the back of Shannon's hut, accessible only from the back door of the hut. It is enclosed by a high wall and is open to the sky. It's really a good system -- it doesn't smell at all, but yes ...it is a very small hole.
